Harmony® Control App Reviews

TRASH

This is the worst app I have ever used from a major company. It absolutely wont pair with my Bose stereo. When I called the company, they charged me $25 to help me, then over the course of multiple weeks and multiple levels of support, they still couldnt make it work... and charged me anyway. Even if it worked, the interface for this app is beyond convoluted. They must have found the worlds worst UI designer and decided to ask him, hey come design my app! What an awful piece of garbage and support just as bad. I wish I had the hours of my life I tried to get it working back.

Was working, now wont even find the hub

Until I updated to iOS9.3, this app was brilliant. Now it does not work at all. Every troubleshooting prompt has been tried. So disappointed.

Worked great!

Even migrated all the settings from my old Harmony One remote. It worked like a charm!

Rarely works

Cant keep our Apple devices connected

Completely Unreliable

Connecting to hub. Story of this things life. Gets better after a reset but then gets worse. Im done trying with this and have lost more faith in Logitech.

Purchased it an hour ago...

I purchased this device from Best Buy for $161.79. I have Comcast cable and the device was unable to connect with my network. I spent an hour trying to unsuccessfully connect the device and now Im taking it back. If it doesnt work now, it probably never will.

Very, very bad software

Worst app I use ever. It takes 60 to 120 secs to start connecting to your hub so it is useless. Also, after that time, doesnt do what suppose to do. Dont waste time and money!

More problems with IOS 3

As soon as I downloaded the iOS 9 .3, I started having more problems. Frustrating!

Great upgrade from the 650 remote!

Got tired of kids misplace for my Harmony 650 remote so bought the whole home solution at best buy. I was able to import the settings from my 650 to the whole home easily by logging in to my logitech account through the apps setup process. I have a Vizio 4k TV, a Sony Blu-ray player, direct TV receiver and a WD TV live with a Denon 5.1 receiver and it works flawlessly with all components and all my activity presets work great. Pushing watch TV starts everything that needs to be on and automatically puts receiver on the right input. Same for watch movie and watch Blu-ray. You can even have it turn game systems on and off and swap inputs automatically. Love it.

Has issues but works

Best thing about this app is that you can change every device setting from the app itself and it updates using wifi. That in itself is a reason to upgrade to the smart series. No more crappy app to use or having to sync using USB for every tweak you make. It has multiple issues like convoluted locations for different settings and it likes to disconnect once multitasked away from and when you go back to the app it doesnt always reconnect. However, being able to swipe the volume on my receiver up and down is magical. The hardware remote itself is fantastic (save for the missing devices function, mine only has activities). It feels fantastic and not having to point it at a device is amazing. [UPDATE Jan 2016] The app has been updated to fit the 6S Plus screen! Also the Notification Center widget is the most used feature for me now. Its excellent. The not connecting issue has also been resolved. All in all theyve now got a very good app for daily use.

Eh.

About the best I can say for this app, and for the entire home hub, is eh. Im disappointed. Its easy to set up and It works, but thats about it. Its little more than the digital equivalent of velcro-ing all your remotes together. Im using it only for controlling my entertainment system (only 5 components), no other home connected items. The UI for the devices and activities is horrible. You can reach all the functions for your devices, but the UI is cumbersome. I also have a Harmony 650, which is honestly easier to use. There is nothing about this this app plus the home hub that would make me reach for it first over the 650. The only positive is in the 360ir blaster for the hub, but thats not nearly enough for me to keep this - Im jumping ship for the Blumoo or other competitor.

Almost Perfect

First thank you for updating the resolution its way better to look at now. This app is great its the one stop place to control my lights, air condition and heating, TV and surround sound my PS4 and Xbox One and so on. Also have a few of the remotes the Ultimate and just got the Elite. All we need now is Home Control integration so that I can tell Siri to turn on my TV. Keep up the good work. I read the first review about this person calling in the geek squad every time he updates, LOL come on. If you have to call in the useless Best Buy Geek Squad to do this for you then this remote is not for you stick to your basic universal remotes.

Amazing start, but....

I love the idea of this device and the app, but there are some fundamental flaws that need to be addressed. My gut tells me that there was little to no user experience testing done on this device/software combo. I love the fact that this product is extensible, so with any luck the app will mature. My gripes: Once Ive turned on my receiver, my tv, etc. I typically dont want to turn anything on or off until time to pack it in for the night. Some devices are "always on". I WILL, however, want to switch inputs on multiple devices for things like watching AppleTV or switching over to the Mac Mini. So I should be able, for example, to create activities that dont require turning things on. I also should be able to add and remove devices from activities without having to delete the activity and start over. I get the desire for simplicity, but the app, for all the good stuff in it, is truly held back by the apparent simple-mindedness expressed in activity creation and editing, which are pretty much critical pieces of functionality, and happen to be required functionality by design, seeing as one cant really use the product at all without creating activities. There are numerous positives that should be called out: 1) multiple protocols. I love how the hub detects and can work with wifi, bluetooth or IR devices. 2) device support: an astounding number of devices are supported without much effort needed for fine tuning. Seriously. If your device is found and identified, it can be manipulated. Perhaps much less so with a device that happens to be a computer, but really, who cares. Computer control could be dropped unless they want to commit to supporting the requisite protocols. Highly unlikely. 3) activities: despite my comments above, this product is on the right track. Flexibility and thoughtful expansion of control are needed. 4) extensibility: the capabilities of the product seem to be in large part dictated by the app, which can be upgraded. The question is: are you itching for this now, or do you want to wait? I feel somewhat duped, having done a lot of research before buying, and this is supposed to be a great solution based on my reading. Is it? No. Can it be? Yes, and its not too terribly far away.

Works Perfectly Fine

I really cannot be the ONLY person who has had this working for two years. Experience got a bit better with the phone because I always had that near me then the remote itself. I have no problems because I set it up EXACTLY how the instructions told me to. Most people just want to plug it in and have it work, I get it; Im a consumer too but to get the greatness you sometimes have to bite the bullet and read.

Home controls are a joke

Smart home stuff is bolted on without any real integration. Smart home devices are limited in number and in assignable buttons even if you buy the Extender which shipped over a year late. Plus this app is very very slow to connect or reconfigure.

Like it

Use this often to fix issues when my remote wont work. Very reliable.

Still needs another update

My son set this up for me in the family room to go with my new Logitech remote and Sony TV in the family room. However, why is it also interfering with my wifes tv in the kitchen? It turns her directv receiver on, brings up the guide whenever I change channels on my tv. Its frustrating for all of us.

New updates, new bugs!

Though this app works most of the time, it seems to be continuously disturbed by sloppy updates. Luckily I had an easy fix for my latest issue: after a new april 2016 update, my harmony app would only download its hub config via cloud and never on wifi and this broke the widget as well. This affected both my ipad and iphone. I had to cancel the downloading of config and rescan for the hub on both devices. Then proper configs and widgets were in place. If youve used logitech products for awhile, you know their hardware is pretty good. But their software is generally a step above junk. So no surprises here on yet another botched update.

DONT UPDATE!!!!!!

After update last night I have to reset the app each time I try to operate the Hub.. This app is always affected by poor update planning

They released the old app!

This app wins for the ugliest user interface ever! For those that dont like the interface (like me), Logitech re-released version 3.3 on the App Store. Thank you Logitech!
